Justin Doss: Style Profile
Justin’s profile in menswear has grown exponentially since his first employment at Ralph Lauren. By the age of 27, he had also worked at the esteemed Sid Mashburn shop in Atlanta (think Mr Porter but in person) and was an associate buyer of men’s luxury sportswear at Barneys.
His big break came in 2011 when he replaced Lisa Cohen after her 28-year tenure at US GQ. He is currently senior fashion editor at GQ, and the right-hand man of creative director Jim Moore, but there are few who predict his rise within the industry will plateau.
Honing his skills down south at Sid Mashburn, Justin’s gregarious manner is reflective of the personal values of the establishment, where a personal shopping experience is as important as the quality of the clothing produced.
The eclectic nature of Sid Mashburn and the prepiness of Ralph Lauren have certainly shaped his personal style. The holy trinity of Sid Mashburn dress etiquette – monk straps, striped shirts and plaque buckle belts – are omnipresent in his wardrobe, whilst penny loafers and jeans/tweed jacket combinations are staples inherited from Ralph Lauren. These prominent influences can be seen in nearly every outfit he constructs.

6 simple ways to look gorgeous

Breathe in some fresh air, smile at your reflection, learn a yoga posture. Feeling beautiful isn't all about make-up

You don't need expensive facials or cosmetics to look good. Though beauty these days is all about stopping the clock and quickly fixing signs of aging, there are far simpler ways to look gorgeous and feel great.

Strike a dance pose
You could be anywhere, and suddenly move your eyes, feet and hands in a dance movement. Says dancer Geeta Chandran, "If you just move your eyes, or spin your hands in a classical dance movement, the mind will get the signal that you appreciate your own body movements." Mumbai-based belly dancer Veronica Simas de Souza reveals, "If you break into a dance movement any time of the day, you become conscious of your body in a very mystical way and feel beautiful."

Walk straight, sit tall
If you slouch, it means you are feeling low. According to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, subjects who sit up straight in their chairs are more confident. Says Kelly McGonigal, psychologist at Stanford University, "When your posture is erect, the message it gets is: I feel good about myself."

Stand on one leg
Starting a yoga routine can bring awareness to your body and balance your body and mind. Says yoga expert Shiva Rea, "Yoga brings in new creative energy. You breathe a new bliss of beauty into your body and mind. Your skin, hair and nails get a new lease of life, and the glow is almost permanent. It reverses the aging process with great flexibility."

Be immune to negativity
Avoid people who sap your energy. Try to be an observer. Don't judge events as good, bad or ugly. Sarah Maria, author of Love Your Body, Love Your Life says, "In an age where we are unhappy about our bodies, we must tell ourselves: 'You were born beautiful. You were born perfect, and you will remain just as perfect and beautiful every day of your life.' We are desperately trying to reverse our aging process, re-grow our hair, smooth out our wrinkles, whiten our teeth etc. If you have a scar, you can decide to see it as a flaw or simply as a memory of an injury." Model Ramneek Pantal says, "If you have flaws, don't be embarrassed about them. Confidence is what makes you beautiful."

Hum your favourite tune
If you have been at your work desk for more than four hours, step outside. Take a walk and hum your favourite tune. Feel the difference. Says singer Raageshwari, "There's great power in humming an upbeat song. Just listening to your voice is uplifting and will make you feel feminine."

Smile at the mirror
Smile into the mirror. The mere act of watching your lips broaden can make you feel happy and relieve tension. A smile sets off chemical and physical reactions within your mind and body, releasing endorphins that boost your mood. Says dance expert Sarina Jain, "A smile is the best way to feel that inner warmth and glow.

Make your own facial cleanser

Make your own facial cleanser
Make your own facial cleanser
Store bought cleansers cost a bomb and are loaded with chemicals.

That just defeats the prupose of using them in the first place. Try these at home cleansers instead:

- You can use raw milk for cleansing if you aren't sporting a full face of makeup. Store a few spoonfuls of raw milk in the refrigerator. Dip a cotton ball in the milk and wipe your face with it. Raw milk is not just an effective cleanser, it is also very refreshing and soothing especially in summer. Make sure to wash off with lukewarm water.

- Although it takes some amount of trial and error while deciding on skin care regimes and products, it can be an agonising wait if your skin doesn't take to it. People with dry or sensitive skin are better off using olive oil, castor oil or jojoba oil for cleansing.

- Girls with an oily skin type can use a cleanser made from a spoon of yogurt mixed with a spoon of honey and lime juice. However, application of this mixture must be followed by a face wash meant especially for oily skin. Avoid oil-based products if you are oily-skinned.

Cartoon tees are back in vogue......

Cartoon tees are back in vogue
After T-shirts with sarcastic quotes, now it's time for some animation.

No matter how old we are, we all love cartoons. Probably this is why, the latest trend today is to sport your favourite cartoon or animation character on your T-shirt. Currently, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and Hello Kitty T-shirts are thefashion industry's favourites.

Famous cartoon characters on your tees are not the only trend, many celebrities have been spotted sporting their own quirky illustrations, too. The most famous among them is Kate Moss; she is the star of the collection and the model looks striking in T-shirt form.

After all, there are celebs who like to channel their inner child, and call us crazy, but we think they do so by wearing cutesy cartoons on their clothing.

Pink was spotted in an animated T-shirt that said 'POP!'. Avril Lavigne usually is spotted in T-shirt that has some animation or a cartoon character. Even Keith Urban was seen sporting a whacky duck cartoon T-shirt. That's not all, Bollywood diva, Katrina Kaif has been seen on many occasions sporting one as well. The style is playful and makes one appear approachable and even friendly.

Lusting over Deepika's two-tone net sari on that film poster? Shikha Shah tells you how to own the replica, that too at a reasonable price.

Have you ever fantasised about owning a celebrity wardrobe? Well, the reality is that most of us are trying to keep up with being fashionable within a budget. But this doesn't mean you can't own Sridevi's chiffon white sari from Chandni or Deepika Padukone's sari from the song Badtameez Dil. With fashion portals selling exact replicas of these saris at pocket-friendly prices, having the same outfit as your favourite Bollywood diva is no sweat.

The Bollywood obsession

Bollywood stars, to a large extent, dictate popular styles that flood the markets as a trickledown effect. "Actresses dressed in statement saris and opulent lehengas etch a lasting impression on the minds of the audience. Women in awe of these actresses, start imagining themselves in the glamorous avatar and find ways to emulate the style," saysPradeep Katyal, CEO, "The fad has gone to a whole new level, courtesy the internet, social media and paparazzi culture. This has resulted into a mushrooming of sites that are selling low pricedesigner knock-offs," says gen-next fashion designer Aniket Satam.

Sari - the all-time silhouette

Nothing flatters a woman's figure like a sensuously draped sari. "If draped well, a sari can make you look sensuous, beautiful and sophisticated, all at the same time. Moreover, it's an outfit that's very well-accepted in our culture," says designer Mrunal Yangad. While most designers are happy about the fact that the Indian sari is taking the international fashion world by storm, Satam feels it is a cash cow for designers. "A sari appeals to the masses and can be easily translated in any size, colour and type. With the trend of destination and theme weddings, NRIs do not mind spending lakhs of rupees to recreate looks of popular Bollywood brides, both on and off screen," he says.

Within your budget

Ishita Swarup, founder of says, "Bollywood actresses are always in sync with the latest trends as they are amongst the fortunate firsts to get their hands on the latest designer collections. But what about an average woman who can't afford to shop at the same designers' stores to dress stylishly?

These replicas are a way for women to add a bit of filmi glamour to their lives." These portals source from small manufacturers who very closely replicate the most talked-about saris, salwarsuits and anarkalis worn by top actresses in films as well as red carpet events, for an affordable price. Don't be a total copycat! There may have been times when you've been disheartened that what looked good on your favourite actress, doesn't look the same on you. "Women often forget the fact that a lot goes into making an actress look drop-dead gorgeous. When buying an outfit online, you may imagine the actress wearing it but forget to analyse whether it will suit your body type and personality. When trying to ape someone else's look, it's essential to keep your assets and preferences in mind, rather than blindly following your style icon," says fashion designer Payal Jain. Moreover, not all garments worn by heroines make practical sense. "Most times, silhouettes worn by actresses in films are too revealing and suitable only for the silver screen," points out designer Rajat Tangri. Not everyone is born with a flair for fashion and styling. "Wearing something which has already been experimented with might work for some while others might end up looking like clones," say designers Pragya and Megha Samor. Fashion designer Shouger Merchant Doshi believes the thought of yearning to look like anyone else, be it a celebrity or not, is flawed. "The idea should be to effortlessly stand out in a crowd by maintaining your individuality. Believe in i n s p i ra - tion, not imitation," he says.

Your body type and skin tone. Women who are plump can choose chiffon and georgette saris with thin borders. Slim or skinny women can go for saris with thick borders, woven in heavier fabrics like silk, brocade, cotton and organza as these will add volume to the body and enhance their curves. Manish Saksena, co-founder, says, "When purchasing garments online, be sure to check the description of the fabric and the length of the sari." Since you are buying it at a lesser rate, there may be cost-cutting involved. The fabric is likely to be different or the handwork may be replaced with machine work. These minor alterations might change the drape of the outfit. It's best to purchase a sari with an unstitched blouse. This will help you customise the design and fit of the blouse as per your preference.

Beauty benefits of green tea

Beauty benefits of green tea

Green tea and its health benefits have been greatly extolled by the world. Here are a few.

Green tea can be regarded as a storehouse of benefits for the skin. It contains a great deal ofantioxidants which are effective against free radicals. These free radicals, which are formed when the skin is exposed to the UV rays of the sun, are accountable for premature aging.

On occasions of skin inflammation, green tea acts as a great soother. It has also been found out that green tea shows notable improvements among cases of psoriasis and rosacea, accompanied by inflammation.

In cases of acnes and pimples, green tea comes in great aid as the antibacterial content in it, known as catechins, reduces over stimulation of the skin hormones. Further, the overall appearance of the skin is also improved along with complexion when green tea is used as a drink or as a mask.

Experts suggest that applying green tea mask directly on the face is the most effective sun guard. Acne and pimples subside considerably with green tea treatment when a mask of the same is applied on to the face.

Top fashion mistakes that men make

Top fashion mistakes that men make
Top fashion mistakes that men make

Just having a face that fits Prince Charming isn't enough. If you look like you just made the biggest wardrobe blunder of the year, it's time to sit up and get that error out of the way. Here are style no-nos that most men make and ought to avoid:

Too much shine: This one just doesn't cut it by any standards. We mean, why would you want to look like you've escaped from the disco? Shinysuits and iridescent trousers look crass and loud. If you wear it on an evening out it's one thing, but men who wear shiny material pants or shirts must revamp in favour of kinder fabrics like linen and cotton.

Wearing socks and sandals: OK, school-going lad you are not, so get rid of this look immediately. It's a major casual style offender as most guys have been doing this for years. Rule is: socks go with closed shoes and under trousers or chinos. Shorts worn with socks and sandals will only edge you into nerdville and drive away the ladies, so watch out!

Wrinkled clothes: If you haven't had the time to iron out that favourite shirt, wear something else. Resembling this morning's laundry basket is a huge blooper and just shouts out that you're a disorganised, careless soul. Remember, a slob can never look cool.

Going overboard with neon: Sure, bright orange and green may be in vogue and men sport the hues too. But if you have to showcase neon don't be an eyesore. Integrate the shade right in your wardrobe. Simply use a neon ties over a subtle shaded shirt, or if you are wearing a bright shirt, wear it with simple blue denim. A blazer and a shirt worn together in bright shades should be ruled out.

Wearing ripped jeans everywhere: Yes, the washed-out, ripped denim look might be cool, but it can't be worn on all occasions like some people deem it fit. It's not party wear, neither is it Saturday dressing, so do not wear it to work. The rockstar look is okay for a movie or on a casual date.
