Swallows, parrots, toucans or cuckoos - this summer, bird-inspired prints are ruling the roost.

Get past those done-to-death loud animal prints on your clothes; instead give your wardrobe a chirpy makeover by taking some inspiration from the skies! We're talking about avian prints and bird motifs on clothes, bags and accessories that have become one the top favourite prints on the runway this season.

Last year, international labels like Marc Jacobs,Carolina HerreraJill Stuart and Suno gave flight to this print, while this year, Prabal Gurung did an interpretation of the bird motif for Spring 2013, by showcasing digitally printed bird wings in his designs. You can go one step ahead and wear delicate birds like swallows, placed on cherry blossom branches!

Says designer Rajat Tangri, "Birds, especially swallows are sleek, adaptive and symbolic of all things beautiful. For example, the swallow represents love, care, peace and affection towards family, along with a sense of loyalty. Therefore, these birds make for good print value on garments and also give your apparels a sense of uniqueness." The print goes well with peplum dresses and the little black dress, adding an almost serene look. You can also accessorise any regular outfit with bird-inspired jewellery. "From big chunky styles to little birds on charm bracelets, these motifs add a bit of quirky charm to any outfit," says Sonal Sahrawta, jewellery designer. So channel your free and wild inner spirit by sporting this fashion trend.
